While it only has 149 horsepower, the electric motor puts out 273 lb-ft of torque. The volt charges at home using the included 120v charger. Once it is on gasoline it still acts like a hybrid, shutting off the gas motor when not in use. The gasoline motor is not directly linked to the wheels. It acts as a generator, creating electricity to drive the electric motor. Note: the original chevrolet branded charger was lost and replaced with a fiat branded 120v charger. Chevy has really done their homework with these cars. The batteries are monitored very closely to keep them charging efficiently. They include an eight year / 100,000 miles warranty on the battery. This is a fantastic car. The chevy volt was put together for style and comfort. It is the best hybrid vehicle on the planet! This car is the premier edition so it has leather and almost all of the available "bells and whistles". It does not have navigation (who really needs it with smart phones), it does not have a backup camera, it does not have bose audio (but the sound is still amazing). It has been my favorite commuter car. I drive 500 miles a week and have been through a few cars over the years, nothing has compared to this one. I have been able to plugin and charge this car while at work so i my daily driving has been mostly on electric. I have gone 6 weeks without having to put gasoline in it. I just put brand new tires on it this week. Last week nada gave me a value of $11,700. With the new tires need to be firm at $11,000. No dealer calls please! Backup Camera

It has been my favorite commuter car. I drive 500 miles a week and have been through a few cars over the years, nothing has compared to this one. I have been able to plugin and charge this car while at work so i my daily driving has been mostly on electric. I have gone 6 weeks without having to put gasoline in it. I just put brand new tires on it this week. Don't get scared by the mileage either. Chevy put an 8 year 100,000 mile warranty on the battery. Plus i am the second owner, the first was a 3 year lease in michigan, and i have only used the 110 charger. If the car is not being driven then it is plugged in, if it is not plugged in then i am driving it. The lifetime of the vehicle shows just over 80mpg's, but it is just over 100mpg's with my usage. Last week nada gave me a value of $11,700. With the new tires i need to be firm at $11,000. No dealer calls please! Backup Camera
